DOE Tour of Research Facilities (fwd)

Dear all:

The planned stops on the DOE site-visit tour of TUNL facilities on Tuesday, Nov. 4 are listed below in Mohammad's message.

I write to ask all researchers and technical staff members to work together to make most of our research areas presentable. Priority should given to the areas listed on the planned tour. However, the Panel might request to see areas not on the planned route. So, it is important that we make most research areas presentable.

The scientists who are responsible for TUNL research areas should request assistance from the technical staff as needed.

Assignments for sites not on the planned route:
1. The Tandem Lab
    (a) control room - Pat Mulkey and Bret Carlin
    (b) LE & HE bay - Paul Carter, John Dunham, Richard O'quinn
                          and Jeff Addison
    (c) LECAP area - Capture group
    (d) target room #1 - UNC group
    (e) TOF target room - Howell, Crowell and Tornow

2. The Cave - Tornow

3. The Electronic shop - Bret Carlin and Pat Mulkey

4. DFELL
   (a) The HIGS counting house - Ahmed
   (b) The DFELL control room - Wang, Maurice Pentico and Vernon Rathbone
   (c) The vacuum shop - Gary Swift and Marty Johnson
   (d) The electronic shop - Victor Popov and Pat Wallace
   (e) Mechanical work area - Joe Faircloth

Again, priority should be given to the stops on the planned route. However, we should not neglect the areas above.

Thanks,
Calvin

Subject: DOE Tour of Research Facilities

Dear All,

As part of the DOE review of the TUNL scientific program
and research infra-structure, a tour of research facilities
is planned for Tuesday, November 4, 2008 starting at 10:20 AM.

During the tour, the committee will visit the following sites :

1) LENA (10 min.),
Art will lead at this location.

2) FFSC 1127 (TUNL assembly hall, 5 min.),
nEDM group, Paul, Bob, and Haiyan will coordinate this location.

3) 3He Polarized Target Lab. (FFSC, 5 min.),
   Haiyan will coordinate this location.

4) DSR/FEL (DFELL, 10 min.),
   Ying will coordinate this location.

5) PEEM Station (Keck Building, 3 min.),
Dana Peles will coordinate this location.

6) Proposed Site of Upstream Target Room (3 min.),
   Mohammad will coordinate this location.

7) The Gamma-Vault (15 min.),
Mohammad will coordinate this location aided
by various groups operating : OTPC, Blowfish, HINDA, Polarized
Target, Clovers, and Neutron Detector (for 9Be).

During the visit of a particular location we would like
to have a display of posters illustrating the
projects/experiments being carried out at that facility.
Post-docs and graduate students must be present to
aid in the tour if it involves their work. These posters could
be the same posters which will be displayed during the
poster session following this tour (in this case print two
copies so that you do not have to rush one poster
from place to place !)

I am working on the sequence of this tour (where will it start
and where we will end). I will keep you posted as soon as I have
a program.

I would request the tour coordinators to please encourage the
post-docs and graduate students to start preparing the posters,
and prepare the facilities so that we present them in a neat, clean, organized, productive, and functional state.

Thank you.

Mohammad Ahmed
