10C (74AJ01)(See Energy Level Diagrams for 10C) GENERAL: See also (66LA04) and Table 10.24 [Table of Energy Levels] (in PDF or PS). Model calculations: (FA68C, SA69K, SO69A, SA73S). Special reactions: (AU67A, YI69A, AR71). Pion reactions (See also reaction 3.): (AL73D, CH73O). Other topics: (FA68A, FA68C, SO69A, SO69D, FO70J, AN72B, CA72P). Ground-state properties: (KE66C, FA68A, FA68C, GA69O, SA73S).
10C decays with a half-life of 19.42 ± 0.06 sec to 10B*(0.7, 1.7): the branching ratios are 98.53 ± 0.02% and 1.465 ± 0.014%, respectively (RO72C): see reaction 39 in 10B and Tables 10.21 (in PDF or PS) and 10.24 (in PDF or PS).
See (PA72L; astrophys.).
At Ep = 185 MeV the π- spectrum shows groups corresponding to 10C*(0, 3.36 ± 0.07, 5.28 ± 0.06, 6.63 ± 0.15). Angular distributions have been obtained for the π- corresponding to these four states. The π+/π- intensity ratio is usually >> 1 for analog states in 10Be and 10C (DA73F). See also (DA71A, RO72N, DI73D).
See (MO73B).
Q0 = -4432.8 ± 1.8 keV (FR66E).
At E(3He) = 14 MeV the angular distribution of the t0 group has been measured (NU70). At E(3He) = 30.6 and 40 MeV triton groups have been observed to 10C*(0, 3.37 ± 0.03, (5.03 ± 0.06), 5.28 ± 0.06, (5.60 ± 0.06), 6.58 ± 0.06) (MA66H). At E(3He) = 30.3 MeV, the energy of the first excited state is determined to be 3.344 ± 0.008 MeV, and the triton groups corresponding to the two states at Ex = 5.03 and 5.60 MeV suggested by (MA66H) are assigned to 11C (BR68I). See also 13N in (76AJ04).
Both 10C*(0, 3.35) are strongly populated at E(6Li) = 30 MeV, θ = 16° (LE72H).
See (OC59).
Angular distributions have been reported at Ep = 30.0 to 54.1 MeV (CO67I; t0), 43 MeV (BE67S; t0, t1, and to 10C*(5.3)), 43.7 MeV (CE66F; t0, t1) and 49.5 MeV (NE70M; t0, t1; polarized protons). L = 0, 2 and 2, respectively for 10C*(0, 3.35, 5.3), and therefore Jπ = 0+, 2+ and 2+: see (BE67S). [10C*(5.3) may correspond to several unresolved states: see 10Be.] At Ep = 43 and 52 MeV (BE67S) report the excitation of 10C*(5.29 ± 0.06, 6.61 ± 0.06) [Γc.m. = 300 ± 50 keV for both these states]. The states at Ex = 7.2 ± 0.2 and 10.2 ± 0.2 MeV reported by (BA65O) are not observed. See also (CA65G, TA68) and (KA71; theor.).
At E(3He) = 70.3 MeV the angular distributions of the 6He ions corresponding to the population of 10C*(0, 3.35) have been measured. The group to 10C*(3.35) is much more intense than the ground state group: multi-step processes may be important (KA73C). Three states of 10C are observed with Ex ~ 10 MeV. One of these [Ex = 10.72 MeV] is very strongly populated. A search for a T = 2 state with Ex ~ 22 MeV was unsuccessful (BE73Y).
