16C (71AJ02)

(See Energy Level Diagrams for 16C)

GENERAL: See also Table 16.1 [Table of Energy Levels] (in PDF or PS).

See (ZE60A, LE66E, SO69A, SO69D, SU70A; theor.) and (DO65D, AU67A, CA67T, DO68B, AR69E).

Mass of 16C: From the Q-value of the 14C(t, p)16C reaction [Q0 = -3.014 ± 0.016 MeV (HI61)] and the (MA65A) masses for 14C, t and p, the mass excess of 16C is 13.695 ± 0.016 MeV.

See (CE68A) and (GO60P, BA61F).

1. 16C(β-)16N Qm = 8.010

The half-life of 16C is 0.74 ± 0.03 sec (HI61).

2. 14C(t, p)16C Qm = -3.014
Q0 = -3.014 ± 0.016 (HI61).

Proton groups have been observed at Et = 12 MeV to the ground state and to an excited state of 16C at Ex = 1.753 ± 0.012 MeV. The corresponding angular distributions show L = 0 for 16C(0) and indicate L = 2 for 16C*(1.75): Jπ are then 0+ and (2+), respectively (MI64F).
