17N (82AJ01)

(See Energy Level Diagrams for 17N)

GENERAL: See (77AJ02) and Table 17.1 [Table of Energy Levels] (in PDF or PS).

Theoretical papers and reviews:(KR78F, AL79N, BE79A, BO79GG, MI80H, OS81A).

Experimental papers:(AR77B, BA77AL, GE78B, KO78A, OL80, FR81B).

1. (a) 17N(β-)17O* --> 16O + n Qm = 4.536
(b) 17N(β-)17O Qm = 8.680

The half-life of 17N is 4.173 ± 0.004 sec (OH76E, AL72M). See also (71AJ02). The decay is principally [see Table 17.2 (in PDF or PS)] to the neutron unbound states 17O*(4.55, 5.38, 5.94) [Jπ = 3/2-, 3/2-, 1/2-]. The nature of the decay is in agreement with Jπ = 1/2- for 17Ng.s. (PO73D, AL76). For a comparison of the 17N and 17Ne decays see Table 17.23 (in PDF or PS) (AL76, OH76E).

2. 9Be(9Be, p)17N Qm = 7.537

See (77AJ02) for several other reactions leading to 17N.

Angular distributions are reported at E(9Be) = 5.0 MeV to 17N*(0, 1.37, 2.53) (YO77D).

3. 11B(7Li, p)17N Qm = 8.417

Observed proton groups and γ-rays are displayed in Table 17.4 (in PDF or PS). Table 17.5 (in PDF or PS) shows branching ratio and lifetime measurements (RO74J, RO74K).

4. 15N(t, p)17N Qm = -0.108

Observed proton groups are displayed in Table 17.6 (in PDF or PS). See also (71AJ02).

5. 15N(α, 2p)17N Qm = -19.922

At Eα = 65 MeV 17N*(3.13, 3.63) are the only states of 17N which are strongly populated (JA78I).

6. 15N(13C, 11C)17N Qm = -15.293

At E(13C) = 105 MeV 17N*(3.13, 3.63) are strongly populated (RA79C).

7. 17O(n, p)17N Qm = -7.898

See 18O in (78AJ03).

8. 18O(γ, p)17N Qm = -15.942

See (BA76II) and 18O in (83AJ01).

9. 18O(d, 3He)17N Qm = -10.449

Observed groups of 3He ions are displayed in Table 17.4 (in PDF or PS): the 1/2- ground state contains the full 1p1/2 strength. The strength of all other observed l = 1 transitions is assumed to originate from pickup from the 1p3/2 shell (MA77K). Analyzing powers have been obtained at Ed-bar = 52 MeV to 17N*(0, 1.37, 1.85, 2.53, 5.51, 6.99) (MA81).

10. 18O(t, α)17N Qm = 3.872

At Et = 3.5 MeV (GU76D) have studied α - γ angular correlations and γ-ray branching ratios for the first six excited states of 17N: see Tables 17.4 (in PDF or PS) and 17.5 (in PDF or PS). See also (71AJ02).
