5H (84AJ01)

(Not illustrated)

Attempts to study this nucleus in the 3H(t, p), 7Li(6Li, 8B) and 9Be(α, 8Be) reactions, as well as in 7Li + π- have been unsuccessful: no sharp states are observed [see (74AJ01, 79AJ01)]. A recent study of the spectrum of π+ from 7Li + π- suggests that 5H may be nearly stable to decay into 3H + 2n (SE81G). The work of (AD67E) on the 3He(3He, n)5Be reaction suggested, on the basis of analog considerations, that 5H is unstable by more than 2.1 MeV to decay into 3H + 2n. See also (SE81I) and (AV81B, BE81D; theor.).
