9C (66LA04)

(See the Isobar Diagram for 9C)

GENERAL: See (55AJ61, SW56A, GR64C, WI64E, JA65C, WO65).

Mass of 9C: The atomic mass excess of 9C is 28.99 ± 0.07 MeV: see 12C(3He, 6He)9C (CE65).

1. 9C(β+)9B → 8Be + p Qm = 16.76

Two groups of delayed protons are observed, indicating a component of the β+ decay to a level of 9B at 12.05 ± 0.2 MeV with Γ = 800 ± 100 keV which then decays to p + 8Be(0) and 8Be*(2.9). The half-life is 127 ± 3 msec. The allowed character of the decay suggests Jπ = 1/2-, 3/2- or 5/2- for the 9B state, assuming the 9C(0) has Jπ = 3/2-. The near equality of intensity of the two proton groups to 8Be(0) and 8Be*(2.9) favors Jπ = 1/2- for 9B*(12.1) (HA65D). See also (DA61F).

2. 7Be(3He, n)9C Qm = -6.36

Not reported.

3. 12C(3He, 6He)9C Qm = -31.66

At E(3He) = 65 MeV, the transition to the ground state of 9C has been observed with a differential cross section of ~ 1.5 μb/sr for θ = 16° - 26° (CE64C). The mass excess of 9C is 28.99 ± 0.07 MeV (CE65).

4. 10B(p, 2n)9C Qm = -25.79

The threshold energy is ~ 29 MeV (RO65F). See also (HA65D).

5. 11B(p, 3n)9C Qm = -37.25

See (HA65D).

6. 12C(p, d2n)9C Qm = -50.98

The threshold energy is 52 ± 3 MeV (HA65D).
