9C (79AJ01)

(See the Isobar Diagram for 9C)

GENERAL: See also (74AJ01) and Table 9.12 [Table of Energy Levels] (in PDF or PS).

Model calculations: (IR74A, IR76C).

Pion reactions: (KA74D, HE76B, SE78B).

Other topics: (IR74A, BE75CC, IR76C, CE77C).

Ground state properties: (BE75Q).

Mass of 9C: The atomic mass excess of 9C is 28912 ± 3 keV (KA75C) based on the Q-value of the 12C(3He, 6He)9C reaction (TR71) and the threshold energy of the 7Be(3He, n)9C reaction (MO71B).

1. 9C(β+)9B --> 8Be + p Qm = 16.681
--> 5Li + α Qm = 14.81

The half-life of 9C is 126.5 ± 1.0 msec (HA71B, ES72), 126.5 ± 2 msec (MO71B). Several groups of delayed protons are observed indicating the involvement of a number of 9B states: see Table 9.10 (in PDF or PS) (ES72). See also (KU74D, WI75D; theor.).

2. 7Be(3He, n)9C Qm = -6.282

Ethresh. = 8980 ± 5 keV (MO71B).

3. 12C(3He, 6He)9C Qm = -31.575
Q0 = -31.578 ± 0.008 (TR71).

At E(3He) = 74.1 MeV a 6He group is observed to the first excited state whose atomic mass excess is measured to be 31.131 ± 0.011 MeV, Γ = 100 ± 20 keV. Based on the adopted AME for the ground state of 9C of 28.912 ± 0.003 MeV, Ex = 2.219 ± 0.011 MeV (BE74M).

4. 14N(3He, 8Li)9C Qm = -32.064

See 8Li (RO76E).
