Ethics in Research
This seminar will examine some of the ethical issues in research and methods
for reasoning constructively about them. The topics to be addressed include
professional code of ethics, issues in mentoring, peer review and
authorship. Specifically I will discuss factors determining who should be an
author of a research publication, and what are proper and improper ways of
acknowledging different contributions to research leading to publication. We
will examine and evaluate various guidelines for authorship. We will also
consider fair ways of resolving ethical disputes.
