The Early Years
I was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on March 8, 1971. I was one of those kids
who lived in the same house in the same town for all of my childhood and
adolescence. Might sound boring to some, but I liked it. For the
unenlightened, Kingsport is a
smallish city (about 40,000 people) nestled in the mountains of Northeastern
Tennessee. The whole town revolves around the massive industrial complex of
Eastman Chemicals. I would like to
think I had a very normal childhood, complete with little league baseball and
such. I went to high school at
Dobyns-Bennett where I
was active in the band and Junior Classical League among other things. (Note
to DB Alumni reading this -- be sure to check out the
Dobyns-Bennett Alumni
Association Home Page .)
The Later Years
My undergraduate education occurred at Wake
Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Many of you will
recognize Wake as the 1995 and 1996 ACC Men's Basketball Champions. Good
for you!!! As you might surmise, I am a huge Wake Forest basketball fan. Do
check out the
Demon Deacon Basketball Home Page . When not cheering on the Deacons from
the Pep and Marching Bands, I spent much of my time in the physics department.
My senior Honors Project consisted of research on the effects of radiation
damage to keratin proteins and amino acids studied with electron spin
resonance techniques. I graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1993 with a B.S. in
Physics and Math. (WFU Former Classmates -- Feel free to drop me some
e-mail so I can find out
what you are up to...)
Circa 1997
I am currently in my fourth year of graduate study in physics at Duke
University (to which I have no sports alligience). My specific area of
interest is in nuclear physics. I work at the Triangle Universities Nuclear
Laboratory, aka TUNL. For
more about my current projects, click on WORKSTUFF.
The biggest thing to happen in my life lately is my wedding to Lauren Elizabeth
Bach (WFU Class of 1994) on June 15, 1996. We were married in Springfield,
Virginia (her hometown) and honeymooned in the NC Mountains. (Maybe eventually
I'll scan in some pictures and make them available here.)
My hobbies include basketball, golf, tennis, and bridge. Almost all of these
events occur with my good friends
Eric "Tuba" Schreiber and Greg "I have no home page" Denbeaux.
Unfortunately, my psychic bridge partner
Josh Fagans decided to accept
the lure of a real job with NeXT Computers (soon to be part of Apple) and
deserted me. Alas...
