Modifying the MSQL Database

After the setup of the work and data areas, the MSQL Database must be modified to indicate the location of these areas. The MSQL Database can only be modified if the msqldb process is active. Make sure the msqld is active prior to the modification. How to start the msqldb process is described in the section 4.6.3. The database can be modified as follows :

• Start the database editing program dbedit.

• Select the host by the pull down menu next to the HOST field (daq2 on TUNL DAQ PC and daq1 on HIGS DAQ PC). A tab on the top left side of the window will appear for the HOST you just selected. Click on the tab (daq1 or daq2). A new set of input fields would appear. Pull down the Database menu and select the experiment database (tunl_experiment for TUNL DAQ PC and higs_experiment for the HIGS DAQ PC).
• Next, pull down the table menu and select test_roc1 from the Table field. A set of input fields would appear as shown in Figure D.1. First click with the left mouse button in row 1 and code column. In this field, enter the location of any CRL codes for the experiment. For example :

  {/home/coda/experiments/exp_name/crl/exp_name.o mystring}
  {/home/coda/experiments/exp_name/crl/secondary.o mystring}
  

  Here, exp_name.o is the CRL code for the experiment exp_name and secondary.o is a CRL code common to all experiments that must be included in all experimental setups. CAUTION: you must hit ENTER key after you have made the change for the changes to be stored ! This is true for any field in this editing program. Figure D.1 shows this input window in the dbedit program.

• In order to identify the location of the raw data area, pull down the Table menu once again and select the test_roc1_option. Change the location in the value column of the dataFile row (row 4). For instance :

  {/daq2/exp_name/exp_name_%d}
  

  This will generate raw data files as /daq2/exp_name/exp_name_#. The # will be updated as the run number by CODA at the start of each run.
• In order to reset the run number, Pull down the Table menu and select sessions. A list of Fields would appear such as Row name, id, ...,runNumber, ... Click and reset the runNumber field to the desired starting run number.
• After making these changes quit dbedit by selecting the dbedit TAB and clicking the QUIT button.
