About Me
After graduating from Newburyport High School, in Newburyport, MA, I went to college at UMass in Amherst, MA. I initially envisioned majoring in Mathematics, but soon realized that I really loved Physics. So I eventually switched majors, and then later added Astronomy, and then later still I realized that I might as well re-add Mathematics to help complement my Physics study (and since I was pretty close to a major anyway). So I graduated with one degree, in three majors (though it took me five years to finish).
During my time at UMass, I became involved with the Medium Energy Nuclear Physics Group (MENP) working for Prof. Rory Miskimen. I performed high voltage testing, and target thickness calculation (using the X-Ray Attenuation Device for Determining Isotopic Foil Thickness, or XADDIFT), for the PRIMEX experiment at JLab.
After taking a year off following graduation, I decided to return to UMass. I am now a third year graduate student in the UMass Physics Department, with Prof. Miskimen as my research advisor. After completing the qualifying exams, I moved down to Durham, NC, to join the Capture group at Duke University. Our work here is on a polarized scintillating target for nuclear compton scattering. For more info on that, please see my Research page.
